COVID-19 Update for Incoming Exchange Students

In the ever-evolving epidemiological situation we cannot anticipate how the current entry requirements and epidemiological measures will affect the start of the new semester in September at the University of Debrecen.

The health and safety of our incoming exchange students is our top priority. For this reason, we recommend that if possible, students should consider postponing their planned mobility for the 2020-21 spring semester. All incoming students whose applications have been approved for the fall semester may choose to carry out their studies or internship in the spring semester.

If you decide to carry out your mobility in the fall semester, please consider the following:

Students may enter Hungary at their own risk, and are subject to the entry requirements and travel restrictions in effect at the time of their arrival.

As of 13 July, the Hungarian government classifies countries as green, yellow, or red, based on the epidemiological situation in the given country. Different entry requirements are in place for travellers crossing the border from each zone.

Please follow the effective measure here: http://abouthungary.hu/

If the effective measures require international travellers to have a negative COVID test, or tests upon arrival, it is the students’ responsibility to obtain the test and they must also bear the associated costs.

If the effective measures require that incoming students should quarantine themselves for 14 days after arrival, it is the students’ responsibility to arrange for a venue and bear the related costs. Due to the large number of international students currently on campus, the university cannot provide a quarantine location in the dormitories, unfortunately.

At present, the University of Debrecen is planning to resume face-to-face educational activities from September. Online courses will only be launched if, during the semester, the coronavirus situation makes it necessary to suspend face-to-face education. Even in that scenario, we cannot guarantee that all faculties and colleges across the campus will be able to provide online examinations for visiting students.

If, in light of the above, you would like to change the time of your mobility or withdraw from the programme, please let us know by writing to erasmus@unideb.hu by August 15, 2020.

Best regards,

UD International Relations Office
