Pannónia Scholarship Programme and Erasmus+

Pannónia or Erasmus+
You may not always need to choose the funding programme yourself: the University may determine it based on the available project funds and the host institution. The main differences are:

Eligibility
1. Can I go abroad during my final year?
Yes, but only if the mobility fits into your degree and can be recognised before you finish. A full semester abroad is often impractical in the final semester because the host semester may end after your final examination period at UD and all credits must be accepted at UD before you get your absolutorium. A shorter mobility or traineeship may still work. You must apply for a recent-graduate traineeship while you are still an active student, before obtaining your pre-degree certificate; the current call sets the completion deadline. As an SH student, you are not allowed to apply for an after-graduation traineeship mobility.
2. Can I apply during the first semester of my master’s programme?
It depends on the mobility type. Under Pannónia, short-term study or research mobility may be available to master’s and doctoral students from their first semester. Long-term mobility normally requires at least one completed semester, although some calls may accept the results of the final semester of your previous study cycle. Always check the current call.
3. Can I apply if I am a Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship holder?
Yes, with restrictions. Under current University of Debrecen calls, Stipendium Hungaricum students cannot take part in long-term mobility during their studies. A short mobility of up to 30 days may be available. Before applying, also check whether the mobility could affect the conditions of your SH scholarship.
4. Can I apply if I receive the UD International Scholarship?
Yes, but the credits and grades earned abroad may affect the credit or grade-average requirements of your scholarship. Before applying, request written guidance from the UD unit administering your scholarship and discuss your plan with your faculty coordinator.
5. Can I go to the country of my citizenship?
As a general rule, the University of Debrecen does not fund mobility to the participant’s country of citizenship. The aim is to gain experience in a new country and a different linguistic and cultural environment. If you have multiple citizenships or exceptional circumstances, request individual guidance before applying.
Mobility opportunities
6. Where can I go for short-term study mobility?
With Pannónia funding, you may join a short intensive course, summer university, block course, professional event or another programme abroad that is relevant to your studies. UD must recognise the activity as part of your degree. Under Erasmus+, the typical short study format is a BIP.
7. What is a BIP?
A Blended Intensive Programme is an Erasmus+ intensive programme. It combines a short physical mobility period of 5-30 days with a compulsory virtual learning component and awards at least 3 ECTS credits. You can join only if a suitable partner programme and an open application opportunity are available. A BIP is an Erasmus+ format; the closest Pannónia option is an individual 2-30 day study or research mobility.
8. Where can I find a list of traineeship placements?
There is no complete central list: in most cases, you need to find the host yourself. Choose a company, institution, organisation or university abroad that can offer tasks relevant to your degree and issue an acceptance letter. If a partner institution offers a specific placement under an agreement, it may appear in the online application system.
9. Can I receive funding to attend a conference abroad?
Pannónia funding is available only for active participation, such as giving a presentation or workshop, presenting a poster, or contributing professionally to the event. The conference must be relevant to your studies and the activity must be recognised. Attendance as a listener or visitor only is not eligible.
10. Can I take part in research mobility?
Yes. Under Pannónia, short research mobility of 2-30 days and, depending on your study level and the call, longer research mobility may be available. Eligibility differs for bachelor’s, one-tier, master’s and doctoral programmes. Under Erasmus+, research may form part of another mobility format; a general individual short research call equivalent to the Pannónia option is not the standard format covered here.
Destinations and application
11. Which countries can I go to?
The current call and the available partnerships always determine the answer. Pannónia may fund mobility worldwide, but travel to war zones or destinations officially classified as not recommended for travel is not permitted. Under Erasmus+, the relevant project and inter-institutional agreement define the eligible countries and institutions.
12. Where can I see the partner institutions?
Use the UD Mobility Finder and filter by field of study, country and mobility type. Apply only for an opportunity that can also be selected in the online application system for the current call. If you are unsure, contact your faculty or departmental Pannónia and Erasmus+ coordinator.
13. When do I need to apply?
Calls for semester-long study mobility are usually published in spring and autumn. Other mobility types may have rolling or separately announced application periods. Always check the exact deadline in the current call, and remember that the host institution may have a different deadline.
14. How do I apply?
Read the current call, discuss your plan with your faculty or departmental coordinator, then submit your application in the University of Debrecen online mobility system. Required documents vary by mobility type but often include a transcript, proof of language proficiency, a CV and motivation letter, or an acceptance letter for a traineeship.
15. What proof of language proficiency is accepted?
You must know the working or teaching language well enough to complete the programme safely and successfully. The current call may require an accredited language certificate or a certificate issued by the relevant language unit of the University of Debrecen. Long-term study calls often require at least B2 level.
Funding and practical matters
16. How much funding will I receive?
The amount depends on the programme, destination, mobility type and duration, and the current project. The grant contributes to the extra costs of staying abroad but may not cover every expense. Prepare a realistic budget before travelling and plan for possible personal contribution.
17. Will accommodation be provided?
Not automatically. Some partner institutions offer dormitory places or help students find a room or flat; elsewhere, you must arrange accommodation yourself. Check the host’s guidance as early as possible and pay only verified providers.
18. Will UD recognise my courses or traineeship completed abroad?
Yes, provided that the planned activities and their recognition are agreed in writing before the mobility in a learning or traineeship agreement. The student, the University of Debrecen and the host approve the document. If your courses change, do not wait until you return: contact the coordinators immediately and amend the agreement.
19. Who should I contact if my question is not answered here?
